A Daughter Is a Daughter all her life (Written by Polly, my Mum)

On a cold December morn,
Our baby daughter is born.
A beautiful girl, greeted with much pleasure,
A bundle of joy to love and treasure.

A happy child with striking looks,
Always inquisitive, with a love of books.
Preferred the outdoors to going to school,
A St. Trinians character, she broke every rule.

A love of cooking shaped her first choice of career,
Hotel voted her the best trainee chef for many a long year.
Hours are long, together with poor pay,
A move to a Solicitor's office won the day.
When an office move takes place, she shows her skill,
Organising "the opening" with a buffet fit to kill.

The office rouitine works well for a while,
The clients respond to that lovely smile.
Despite good achievements, she moves on to pastures new,
Nursing the elderly and infirm brings new challenges too.
We were so proud of the way she approached the work,
loved her patients, no task did she shirk.
Gruelling nights, with no time for a break,
Heavy lifting-excruciating backache.
Committed to her patients, ensuring best quality of life,
In an industry where bad practice is rife.

Sadly, back problems force change to an office base,
Sales targets and customer business to chase.
Discovers she loves the cut and thrust,
Finding out very quickly who you can trust.
Results are rewarded, at last, with good pay,
Achievement and hard work finally won the day.
Her vocation she has clearly found,
All agree her results are sound.

Leaves the U.K for a spell in New York,
Miss her like mad, on the telephone we talk.
We visit and enjoy a wonderful holiday,
Sad that its so short a stay.

A talent for creating an attractive home,
Her new pad is an enormous milestone.
Pride fit to burst when i survey,
Objects d'art in fine array.
Her new kitchen is her pride and joy,
Sparkling dishwasher, her favourite toy.
Makes entertaining a work of art, there's no doubt,
When it comes to cooking, she knows what she's about.
Mouth watering dishes served to perfection,
Table laid with scrupulous attention.

Gererous to a fault and a very good friend,
Someone on whom you can always depend.
A love of life and great fun to be around,
Her energy and vitality knows no bounds.

Maxwell, her cat, is her greatest fan,
His loyalty and adoration beats any man.

She loves her parents and we adore her,
Family is important, we all concur.
So from this poem, you can tell I am justifiably proud,
of a daughter who definitely stands out in a crowd.
This rhyme ends with love and good luck,
Possibly to be incorporated within her book !!!
